World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water. It is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis. A core focus of World Water Day is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.
On November 28, 2018, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) Second Committee unanimously approved a resolution mandating a midterm evaluation of the Water Action Decade at UNGA 77 in 2023.
The UN Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the Implementation of the Objectives of the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development,” also known as the UN 2023 Water Conference, will be held in New York, US, from March 22–24, 2023, to coincide with World Water Day. It will be focused on the Decade’s goals as outlined in the Secretary-Plan: General’s Water Action Decade 2018–2028. Read More
These observances serve to reaffirm that water and sanitation measures are key to poverty reduction, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.
The global youth Water conference will be held around the theme “Water for Sustainable Development” in order to address challenges and accelerate SDG6 implementation.
Africa is a continent endowed with abundant natural resources such as land, water, biodiversity, minerals and others. These resources are yet to be significantly developed and hold considerable potential to transform the continent and enhance the overall well being of African people. If properly utilized and managed, these resources could contribute to creating resilient systems of agriculture, improved access to water and energy and modern industrial development. The crucial role of water in accomplishing socio-economic development is widely recognized (UNECA and Others, 2002).
In the international water community, bottom-up youth engagement comes through a variety of civil society networks. While many youth initiatives may exist around the world, structured and meaningful involvement of youth is generally hampered due to various reasons that range from the lack of widespread support to the absence of proper platforms that sustain youth participation.
However, water does not only present us with challenges. It also presents us with a great opportunity. If we understand the complex relations and interlinkages, value water holistically, and manage water inclusively at all levels and across all interests, then water can be the dealmaker, the leverage point for a green economy, climate resilience and a more sustainable and inclusive world. Water – because of its many interlinkages – can bring together all stakeholders (individual, institutional, informal) to forge coalitions, strengthen capacities and provide solutions to be replicated and scaled.

Visitors’ visas are for international travellers (citizens of other countries) who have permanent residence outside South Africa and who wish to visit the country on a temporary basis for tourism or business purposes for a period of 90 days or less.
A visa simply indicates that your application has been reviewed at a South African embassy, mission or consulate and that the consular officer has determined you are eligible to enter the country for a specific purpose.
The visa will allow you to travel to a South African port of entry where an immigration official will then determine if you are allowed to enter South Africa and for how long you can stay for that particular visit. Visitors are restricted to the activity or reason for which their visas were issued.
This conference will be HOSTED by Mntungwa Media.
